Five Winds in Miniature Bottles aims to capture the subtle yet enchanting beauty of different ‘winds’ that carry timeless memories. The piece depicts snapshots of ‘wind sounds’ with the unique timbres of five instruments in the wind quintet. The piece consists of five concise sections which are constructed from variations of a single theme. Each of the variations is inspired by an extended technique that produces airy sound from each instrument, developed through fragmentation, augmentation, and diminution of the original theme in mensuration canon style.
